Your donation will help us stop the Walker Budget
By making a monetary pledge, you are supporting the Greater Wisconsin Committee (GWC). Thank you for your donation.
GWC is a state-based independent advocacy organization that conducts aggressive grassroots and media campaigns on the important public policy issues facing Wisconsin. Established in 2004, GWC has assembled the best research, strategic and creative talent in the state to educate and mobilize Wisconsin residents on important economic, health, social and environmental issues. Your donation will allow us to continue in these and other similar efforts.
In addition to these educational and advocacy activities, GWC may directly sponsor independent expenditure communications to the general public that expressly advocate for a state or local candidate’s election or defeat. These communications would be regulated under state campaign finance law and subject to certain disclosure requirements. But as an organization that is not primarily engaged in political activities, GWC is not registered as a political action committee (PAC) and, accordingly, is not subject to more extensive PAC reporting requirements.
As financial support for an advocacy organization, donations to GWC are not subject to state or federal campaign finance source restrictions or contribution limits. Accordingly, donations to GWC are accepted in any amount from individuals, corporations, labor organizations and tribes. Each year, GWC is required to provide certain financial information to the Internal Revenue Service about its donations and expenditures. However, under current law, specific information on each of GWC’s donors is not publicly disclosed.
It is our understanding that your donation is an unrestricted, general support grant to GWC and is not earmarked or targeted support for any specific GWC activity. While it is possible that a portion of your donation may be used for political purposes (such as supporting or opposing candidates) you are not donating specifically for the purposes of furthering independent expenditures by GWC. You have not provided a donation “made for” independent expenditures and, accordingly, will not be listed as an itemized receipt in support of any independent expenditures. If this incorrect, please let us know immediately.
Established as a non-stock Wisconsin corporation, GWC has been recognized as a tax exempt advocacy organization under section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code. GWC’s tax identification number is 20-0938084. Donations to GWC are attributed 100 percent to lobbying and political expenses as defined in the Internal Revenue Code and are not deductible as an ordinary or necessary business expense. For guidance on this point and other tax matters, you should consult your tax advisor.
As an advocacy organization, GWC regularly monitors legislative and regulatory activities in Wisconsin and takes positions on a variety of public policy matters. As part of these direct and grassroots lobbying efforts, GWC often provides information to the general public on issues and policies that may be associated with a public official or candidate. All of these activities are done in support of GWC’s lobbying efforts and, unless it sponsors an independent expenditure communication, GWC does not consider any of its activities to be “political” as defined under the Internal Revenue Code.
If you have any questions or would like any additional information on GWC and its activities, view our About us page.
Sincerely,
GREATER WISCONSIN COMMITTEE
